May 29, 2012. On the way to find dinner, we walked past a fire station, and I snapped a few shots. After posting, I recalled a similar photo from Austin and looked to see if it was from a 365 project. It was, also during a leap year like this one, and it was quite close to the same date, May 20, 2008. It has me thinking about doing a 365 project where all my photos reference previous photos on the same day of the year. I don't know that I could manage that level of daily planning, but I have 94 days remaining in this project to focus on in the meantime.

Day 271 - Gull Squabble
May 28, 2012. After work, I swung by North Avenue Beach to see if Memorial Day's crowds would yield anything interesting. I got a few shots I like, including a guy so drunk he had two people holding him up while trying to get a shoe on his foot and failing. For today's photo I opted for a noisy gull party. I have to assume it started with the Doritos.
Day 270 - Willie vs The Abuela
May 27, 2012. There was a little meetup at Stella's between brunch and my band practice. Willie was bartending, and his drummer and drummer's girlfriend were there, in addition to my bass player / singer and her people. Standing outside, Willie yelled at this woman crossing the street, and she came over and pretended to lay into him. A good-natured argument en español ensued.

Day 269 - The Leap
May 26, 2012. It seems to have warmed up in Chicago just for Memorial Day. It's 90º now, though it was more like 70º yesterday when these girls jumped in the lake. They seemed pretty chilly when I went and gave them my info afterward.
Day 268 - Savoring the Smoke
May 25, 2012. This is the brother of my friend and bandmate Paloma, visiting from LA. His girlfriend recently returned from a trip to the Caribbean with cigars which were shared by all. He seems to enjoy it quite a bit.
Day 267 - Mermaid
May 24, 2012. This was one of those days where I had events to go to and shoot, but didn't leave the house. It was part immobility, and part empty wallet. This is a cast ceramic mermaid by our friend, ceramic artist Christine Rabenold.

Day 266 - Save Number One
May 23, 2012. This is the first of several fantastic Sean Johnson saves in the match against FC Dallas at Toyota Park. The most spectacular was perhaps a penalty shot that was blocked in the second half. The one Dallas goal came off of a rebound on a punch by Sean Johnson that dropped the ball in front of an opponent with an open goal in front of him. Nevertheless, the Chicago Fire won the Brimstone Cup by a score of 2-1.

Day 265 - Over In The Clover
May 22, 2012. I had a long break to keep me from working a twelve-hour day, so I rode my bike on the lakefront and hung out at North Avenue Beach for a while before going to have a falafel. It was a nice, chill day at the beach as you may be able to tell by these two reading. In Project 365 news, I have one hundred days to go.

Day 264 - Mali Quatorze
May 21, 2012. Malicous celebrated his fourteenth birthday today. We did some stuff he liked, chewed things, and ate things. Earlier in the day I made a crown for the newly dubbed Mali XIV. After dinner I took portraits of Mali Quatorze in his royal crown and robe. I also shot a few of the Crown Prince Eamon, but those will be posted on Flickr later.

Day 254 - Squarepants
May 11, 2012. Riding my bike home, I certainly did not expect to see Spongebob Squarepants come walking out of a drugstore with a smiley girl who just bought candy. I would expect a girl who just bought candy and came out of a drugstore with Spongebob Squarepants to be smiley, though.
Day 253 - Capellini
May 10, 2012. I spent much of the day in Photoshop working on old family photos, and then had leftover pasta for dinner. In a display of great extravagance, I added olive oil, parmesan, and black pepper - and I drank a root beer.
Day 252 - Labbits
May 9, 2012. Passing the Rotofugi Gallery, I saw a stack of Labbits with moustaches in the window. They are the creation of Frank Kozik, who was for a brief time my next door neighbor in Austin. He did a few posters for my band before he moved away to San Francisco. Well, one tour poster specifically for my band, and a few others for clubs or other bands announcing shows that we played.

Day 251 - That's a Collar!
May 8, 2012. My first photo of the day turned out to be the one to post today. This poor dog had to have surgery on his leg, and then has to walk around in public with a bandanna print life preserver on his head!
Day 250 - Riders From the Mist
May 7, 2012. I wandered out into the fog to find some dinner and found a few interesting photos as well as a tasty breakfast skillet and an English muffin.
Day 249 - Back to the Birdbath
May 6, 2012. It was a beautiful, bright, sunny Sunday morning when I went to work. I didn't go to bed until after 5 am though, so I didn't really appreciate it like I might. Shortly after I got to work - and after I went and got coffee, thankfully - the day turned stormy with quite a bit of thunder and lightning through the night. Another bit of fortune was that it stopped raining for me to ride home. When I got there, I pulled my camera out from beneath my rain jacket and took a picture of the birdbath that I used nine days earlier. That is to say, I used it for my daily photo, not for a bath.
Day 248 - Big New World
May 5, 2012. This is not the picture I would have chosen if I weren't trying to complete a week of animal photos. I went to a show Saturday night that yielded some really good photos of The Treasure Fleet and The House That Gloria Vanderbilt, who both played really well. This Boston Terrier puppy was so tiny, and timid at this point, that he was really hard to photograph at all. I thought it was remarkable that such a little puppy was walking down Armitage Avenue on a busy Saturday afternoon, especially when the train came while he was walking beneath the el tracks. Then the blurry brown dog in the foreground began barking at a very large Rhodesian Ridgeback walking across the street toward us. The puppy looked nervous, but kept right on walking.
Day 247 - Eamon Teeth
May 4, 2012. I was shooting pretty standard cat pictures, but then Eamon gave me this. I don't mind the blur at all in this case. In an interesting coincidence, the record in the background between Eamon's open jaws is "Love American Style" by the Beastie Boys, and this was the day that Beastie MCA passed away. Although I did listen to other Beastie Boys albums that day, this one had been there for about two months and went unplayed that day.

Day 246 - Eamon in the Back Yard
May 3, 2012. There are two days left this week. Can I make it all animals? Well, I probably can. Eamon wanted to come outside with me and the dog this afternoon, so I let him. Fortunately, he didn't bolt when the neighbor came out with his dog, though he did look very anxious. He became Mr. Lover Lover Cat when we went back in and sat on the couch.
Day 245 - Walking the Vols
May 2, 2012. This very, very cute dog needs a home. I photographed him (or her) on a walk with volunteers from PAWS in Chicago.
