Feb 26, 2012. As a reward for unclogging some drains in the house, Shereen took me to Kuma's Corner for dinner. They have incredible burgers. I don't eat meat, so I've had them with a veggie patty, and I maintain that they're the best. If you're intolerant of loud metal music, it's not the place for you, but it might be worthwhile for you to give it a shot anyway. Tonight I had the Neurosis, but I'm thinking next time is going to be the Absu. Tony Kisner, I understand if you had a bad experience at Kuma's on your last visit, but I have to disagree with your dethroning of Kuma's after several meals at your new favorite. The other place is very good too, and actually appears in my 365 entry for December 31.

Day 178 - Holiday
Feb 25, 2012. At the invitation of my friend Keiko, I went to see Chicago's Blind Staggers and S.S. Web, from Milwaukee, at Ultra Lounge. This is Brian, who plays bass for S.S. Web. He's equally animated on stage, and you should check out both bands.
Day 177 - Biking Betsy Ross
Feb 24, 2012. The Bike Winter Art Show opened, and the turnout was pretty fantastic. This is Elise, who made the flag behind her. If you'd like to see the fabulous art in the show, it's running through March 9 at Gala Gallery, 1000 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago. March 9 there will be another party at the gallery with a bike fashion show.
Day 176 - Rainy Day Robbie
Feb 23, 2012. I had lunch with my friend and former coworker Roberto on Thursday. This is a quick shot I took as he turned for the train station and I headed back to work. Roberto is a graphic designer whose work can be seen at ag1lab.com.

Day 175 - Gala Gallery
Feb 22, 2012. Today I dropped off a couple of prints to be hung in the 15th Annual Bike Winter Art Show. Opening night is Friday February 24, 2012 at 7:00 at Gala, 1000 N Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. The art on the walls, soon to come down, is by Slang.
Day 174 - Fat Tuesday
Feb 21, 2012. I hoped to find some interesting Mardi Gras photos, but it seems all the partying took place in clubs. This was the largest outdoor gathering I found, and they were huddled together like penguins waiting to get in the club and out of the cold. Down on Division Street, there was a costumed stilt walker on the street, but the only revelers outdoors were smoking or entering clubs. Wrigleyville and Boystown were similarly quiet (outdoors). I guess I'll have to choose a party and go inside next year.

Day 173 - Driller

Day 172 - Swiss Lanes Diner
Feb 19, 2012. The last day of our trip to New Glarus began in the diner at the Swiss Lanes bowling alley. Blueberry French toast for me!
Day 171 - Cow and Firemen
Feb 18, 2012. After a side trip to Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, we returned to our hotel to discover four or five firetrucks and several firefighters on the roof. It was sort of scary, but couldn't have been nearly as bad as a friend of mine finding the same situation at his smoldering apartment on the Fourth of July. In this case, there had apparently been a fire in the chimney of the large fireplace in the lobby, which was quickly taken care of with minimal inconvenience to the patrons of the Chalet Landhaus. The cows did not appear to be alarmed.
Day 170 - Pink Hairs
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Day 169 - Skates
Feb 16, 2012. Eating a mushroom stuffed slice for lunch, I saw these two traversing the intersection through the window of the pizzeria. While I like the photo on its own, I can't get past the fact that it was taken in mid-February in Chicago, and that clothing was appropriate.

Day 167 - Valentine's Dessert
Monday, February 13, 2012
Day 166 - Happy Valentine's Day
Day 165 - Room E
Sunday practice for Jai Alai again took place at Music Garage, this time in Room E, which is really nice. This is the drum kit I ended up with this time. Whoever used it before me has no idea how to tune a snare.

Day 164 - Tip
Feb 11, 2012. Dice tends bar and stores a tip at Ultra Lounge. This was a night of fun photos. It began with a Rotten Finko & the Convicts show at Ultra Lounge and continued after a couple more bands rolling around town with various members of the Convicts at different venues around Chicago. It was actually all the band members, but not always all in the same place at the same time. I'm actually looking forward to editing those photos.
Day 163 - Author
Feb 10, 2012. Paloma Martinez-Cruz and Carlos at a party for the release of her book, "Women and Knowledge in Mesoamerica: from East L.A. to Anahuac."
Day 162 - Swinging Erica
Feb 9, 2012. Fabulous Ladies of Fitness threw a Valentine's party of sorts at Cole's Bar - Love Is a Battlefield. Erica, one of the DJ's is getting her swing on here.

Day 161 -Take Home Tamales!
Feb 8, 2012. I first saw this cart yesterday on my way to Liz's Pet Shop. Nobody was selling tamales from it then or tonight, so I don't know if it actually is an active foodcart. Even from the corner of my eye while driving a car, however, the art by don't fret grabbed my attention. Today I came back on my bicycle, which is how I get around 98% of the time, including winter, so that I could get a photo of it. It was still there, so now you can see it too.

Day 160 - A Couple of Guys
Feb 7, 2012. Here I am attempting to take a picture with Malicous, who clearly won't look at the camera even when it's not in front of my face. You may notice we're both rocking a skull motif and facial hair, because we're cool like that.
Day 159 - Dinner On The Way
Feb 6, 2012. I meant to make a photo to commemorate Bob Marley's birthday, but instead I made spaghetti and photos of spaghetti. This is a pan of Field Roast (vegetarian) sausages that have been cooked and sliced and are now getting browned a bit more on what had been the inside. They are about to go into a sauce I made with chopped tomatoes (from a carton), onion, garlic, carrot, balsamic vinegar, and some herbs and spices.
Day 158 - Jai Alai Working It Out
Day 157 - Caged Demon
Day 156 - Dancing Dove
Feb 3, 2012. Friday night we met some friends at Late Bar, which was hosting Alchemical Splendor at 45 RPM. DJ's with sideburns played 60's garage, power pop, and fuzzed out soul until four in the morning.
Thursday, February 2, 2012
Day 155 - Alley Lights
Feb 2, 2012. Last year on this date I spent much of the day walking the neighborhood and taking photos of people trying to deal with the two feet of snow left overnight by a storm that included 40+ mph winds. Most neighborhood streets, including this one, were only passable because teams of neighbors hit the road with snow shovels after digging their way out their front doors. One year later, and we're in the midst of a streak of days with temperatures around fifty degrees.
Day 154 - Ghost Bike (Liza Whitacre)
Feb 1, 2012. This ghost bike memorializes Liza Whitacre, killed in an accident with a car a little over two years ago. There are several ghost bikes in Chicago, and I'm thankful for my record on the roads every time I see one.
Day 153 - Practice Time
Jan 31, 2012. This is one of my beautiful drums, made in 1959 about four blocks away from my current house. The former Ludwig factory now houses some high-end condos. I wish they were all occupied by drummers.
Day 152 - Steve
Jan 30, 2012. I saw one of this guy's cohort on a wall from the bus, but it was torn down when I went by on my bike the next day. I found this one (Steve) and another named Jose, though. Steve was still there yesterday, Feb 1, but today he's buried under brown paint along with some other great work, including a beautiful piece by Nice One (to Dream).
