Day 59 - The Alien

Day 59 - The Alien, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

I went to a Halloween party at the Whistler Saturday night DJ'd by the Fabulous Ladies of Fitness and Sir William Dudesworthy. This scary extraterrestrial showed up. I occasionally saw the dance floor with a little bit of elbow room, but I don't know that anyone was disintegrated.

Day 58 - Alma Negra

Day 58 - Alma Negra, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Friday night, we met up with some friends at Streetside Bar & Grill. Aside from the bands, there weren't many Halloween costumes inside, but there was an endless parade of costumes outside walking by the window behind the bands. This is Erin Page of Alma Negra.

Day 56 - Basement Parking

Day 56 - Basement Parking, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

I saw this interesting garage while helping my friend Roberto move out of his apartment in Uptown Chicago.

Day 55 - Boonana Man

Day 55 - Boonana Man, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.
Left Handed Wave is pasting up some Halloween pieces. You may also know him for this same guy in banana suits and bunny suits, as well as the big baby in my September 6, Day 6 posting SEEN HERE.

Day 54 - Lumberjack

I found this mop-faced mannequin at Belmont Army on Milwaukee Ave.

Day 53 - Chandelier

Day 53 - Chandelier, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

This was the lighting fixture over our table at Marie's, an old restaurant in Mayfair, northwest Chicago. There is a far more fantastic chandelier in the back section, where lounge acts perform Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Day 52 - Again?

Day 52 - Again?, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Malicous was on hand to help me out when I spent the whole day not taking photos, as was the case a few days ago.

Day 51 - Birthday Cake

Day 51 - Birthday Cake, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

This day was my wife, Shereen's birthday. A friend visited from Austin, and made a delicious birthday dinner, followed by this delicious cake.

Day 50 - 2 Is All It Takes

Day 50 - 2 Is All It Takes, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

I saw this piece of street art on my way to work today. Part of it is torn away, maybe by people, maybe by yesterday's 60 mph wind gusts. I would like to have seen the whole thing.

Day 49 - Return of the Dawg

Day 49 - Return of the Dawg, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

I took this, and my only two other shots of the day, before taking him upstairs to go to bed. It's cold, rainy, and extremely windy so I stayed at work from open to close without leaving for lunch, and didn't take Mali for a walk either. The weather tomorrow may well leave us with a photo of Eamon, but Malicous will get a walk even if it sucks.

Day 48 - Caught!

Day 48 - Caught!, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Dear residents of Lincoln Park, it's not neighborhood kids messing up your pumpkins, but at least it's not rats.

Day 47 - Let It Go

Day 47 - Let It Go, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

A bit of graffiti I spotted on my way home from work. The cracked paint, the rust, and the spotlight made me brake and roll over to it and shoot it. Also, that's sometimes sound advice.

Day 46 - In The Wok

Day 46 - In The Wok, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Suppertime! Tofu, fried until it begins to turn golden. Shallots, garlic, and serranos added and stirfried for a minute or two. Japanese eggplant and mushrooms added to the mix, along with a Szechuan sauce, then served on a bed of quinoa.

Day 45 - RottenFinko

Day 45 - RottenFinko, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Friday night I met a guitar player named Hoser who knew some of my musician friends in Austin. Conveniently, he had a show the next night at the Cobra Lounge with Rottenfinko & the Criminals. Here's a shot from the show. Also on the bill was the Down Fi, whose bass player and singer is Craig W Bell, also known for playing in Rocket From the Tombs. As might be expected, it rocked. There needs to be more people next time, though I understand Rocket From The Tombs will be in town in December, and that should be packed.

Day 43 - Self Portrait With Bumbershoot

The rain came, and I had to go out to eat lunch today. I guess I didn't have to. There's always delivery. Even from Noodles & Co., where I walked to eat.

Day 42 - Sean Johnson

Day 42 - Sean Johnson, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Sean Johnson appears to be offering condolences to Section 8 fans after a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas. Two games remain this season, one at home, but the playoffs are out of reach now. Johnson always acknowledges the support of the fans, particularly in Section 8. This night it didn't look so easy, but it was a display of character that one might look for in the athletes one supports.

Day 41 - End of Summer, Again

Summer kind of returned to Chicago for a while, but this photo is another sign that it's really gone. Yesterday, falling leaves began littering my neighborhood as well. Rain is predicted for the coming days, and I'm guessing there will be a drop in temperatures as well.

Day 40 - My Groceries Approach

That was Monday, slept late, didn't do much, but did go grocery shopping. Hurray, food!

Day 39 - Chicago Marathon

Day 39 - Chicago Marathon, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

I didn't run the marathon, but it was still a mild endurance test. Sunday morning I woke up after about three hours of sleep and headed downtown to shoot some marathon photos. I was near mile 3 on Lasalle Street from the first wheelchairs to come through until there were a few stragglers loping toward Wacker Drive. I got back on my bike and headed toward the finish and got a spot at the turn from Michigan Avenue onto Roosevelt. There were some wheelchairs finishing already when I got there, but it was about forty minutes before the first runner made it there. That was mile 26. I stayed until I had to get to work. A few miles away I had to cross the course, where I was reminded that not everyone finishes in roughly the same time. There, in the median on North Avenue, I watched an Elvis impersonator for a few minutes before hauling it to work where I spent the rest of the day looking forward to going back to bed.

Day 37 - Danzig Legacy

Day 37 - Danzig Legacy, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

The Danzig Legacy show in Chicago rocked. Sets of material by Danzig, Samhain, and Misfits. It was only one of four such shows. Austinites, one will be at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I saw one big, goofy smile out of Glenn Danzig, when he came down on the floor and touched Shereen's hand. The rest of the show he seemed to keep up the cool, evil demeanor. Doyle always maintained his evil, even when he was blowing bubbles with his gum. The Misfits mini-set seemed a little too mini to me, though. I loved it starting with "Death Comes Ripping."

Day 36 - Godspeed, Steve Jobs

Day 36 - Godspeed, Steve Jobs, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.
I swung by the Apple Store after work expecting to see some sort of public memorial in progress, and indeed I did. There were, of course, flowers, candles, and cards, but also a stack of Post-It notes on which people were writing messages and sticking to the glass. Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder, passed away yesterday, October 5, 2011.

Day 35 - Ciao

Day 35 - Ciao, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

This is the most engaging of the three finalist photos for today. One was a photo of a painter working on the doors of a bar, on his hands and knees with his butt sticking out onto the sidewalk. Another was a photo of some droopy sunflowers in a shaft of sunlight, enjoying an out-of-nowhere 80-degree day. Then there's this guy, encountered on my way home from work, wearing sunglasses at night - so he can, so he can…

If you're waiting for the part after the ellipses, just look up Corey Hart on this internet thingy, youngsters.

Day 33 - Jarhead

Day 33 - Jarhead, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

It's October, as evidenced by the temporary Halloween stores on every other block in Chicago. I have no costume yet, myself, so I better get on it. This particular store is in Wicker Park.

Day 32 - Demon

Day 32 - Demon, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Today was pretty uneventful. I did some laundry and bought groceries. This is Eamon the Demon. So now I have a photo of the dog and the cat after 32 days. Nine more of each to come? We'll see.

Day 31 - Pool

Day 31 - Pool, originally uploaded by Mikey Brick.

Saturday night! First there was finishing work. Then I went home, got cleaned up, and went to Mana, a terrific restaurant a few blocks from me. Shereen and a couple of friends were there, and the table was already full of great food. Then we trotted up to the Flatiron Arts Building, where another friend was showing some of her artwork. As the galleries were closing up we ran down to Santullo's to get Maria, the artist friend, some food and then to Innertown Pub. Before Innertown, we peeked in the Rainbo Club, but nixed it. We found ourselves standing at a table by the back wall chatting till 2 am or so, while I occasionally hit my camera, with the self-timer and fisheye lens, and snapping random shots.
