April 30, 2012. I tried to get a photo of myself and Malicous using this church's steps for a camera stand, but it's really difficult to get a dog (Malicous, anyway) to face a camera with a self-timer on. I attempted three shots, and this is the best. He looks worried and I'm talking to him. In all fairness, there was a cute grey pitbull barking occasionally in his front yard half a block away. Malicous probably felt his attention was needed elsewhere.

Day 242 - The Man
April 29, 2012. Malicous in front of the home of "Roof Dog." Sometimes, when walking down the street, I hear a dog barking at me from the skies. I find him on the wall of the third floor patio (considering this garage the first floor) greeting those of us passing by on the other side of the street. He may bark at people on his side of the street, too, but I haven't noticed, and he wouldn't be able to see anyone. He was not out there while we took this photo. That would probably have been a nuisance for his neighbors and human roommates.

Day 241 - Lo Lo Lo Lo
April 28, 2012. The Chicago Fire played against the Seattle Sounders, who they just can't seem to beat. It really seemed the referee was trying to maintain that. There were lots of soft fouls called against Chicago, while more egregious fouls were not called at all against Seattle. There was a Fire goal disallowed, which may have been offside, as it was called after the fact, and there was a Seattle goal that looked offside as it happened in front of me. Regardless, the final score was 2-1 in favor of Seattle. The ref seemed to wait til the last 15 to 20 minutes to start calling fouls on Seattle, and several of those came with yellow cards. People complain about officiating in soccer all over the world, but it looks especially bad to me in a lot of MLS matches.

Day 239 - Pearly Whites
April 26, 2012. My friend Leland told me to join him at a party downtown held by the company he works for. It was in what I presume to be one of the nicer nightclubs in Chicago, and was actually pretty fun - until the bouncers kicked everyone out so that the club could start over (and charge everybody cover, I guess).

Day 238 - Great Grands
April 25, 2012. My mom sent me a few pages from a photo album that my grandmother had. Grandma's sister, Aunt Clara, didn't even know these photos existed, so I'm scanning and lightly restoring them before making copies. My great-grandmother is on the left, and my great-grandfather is on the right.

Day 237 - Ms Rain Pants
April 24, 2012. I rolled down to Milwaukee Avenue at the Kennedy Expressway and spent a few minutes photographing cyclists coming away from downtown in the evening sun. People wore clothes for a range of climates. Some were dressed the way I dress for temperatures in the 70's, and some were dressed the way I dress from 35º to 40º. The top half of this woman is about as insulated as I like to be on a day like today in the 50's, but the bottom half is wearing rain pants, which I find really uncomfortable when it's even a little warm. They do keep me dry, excluding leg sweat, but rain was certainly not an issue today.

Day 236 - Before the Season Ended
April 23, 2012. At last, the Blackhawks did not play an overtime game against the Phoenix Coyotes. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in Game 6 (the first 5 all went to overtime, if you didn't know what I was talking about) in a 4-0 shutout. They didn't forget to play offense. The Coyotes goalie, Mike Smith just didn't let any of their 39 shots past him.
Day 235 - Post Practice
April 22, 2012. My current band, Tijuana Jai Alai, is progressing quite nicely. We're adding songs at a decent pace, and they're developing well, with dynamics, breaks, pauses, and exclamations. Go team!
Day 234 - Cone
April 21, 2012. This photo is a quick grab of Mallory while we waited for everyone to come out of work and lock up at the end of the day. That's quite a noggin, Mallory.
Saturday, April 21, 2012
Day 233 - Companion
April 20, 2012. I'm still sick, though considerably less so, and stayed in all day again. That really limits the photos I might get, but Mali is a reliable subject. In this photo, he's lying on the floor watching the back door that he thinks his mom is going to walk through. I have not yet taught him about public transportation and how we use the front door when we utilize public transportation.
You know, I have only once seen a dog (other than a security dog) on a CTA train, and that was a tiny dog in a carrier that had a vet appointment on the owner's lunch break. In London, I saw several dogs ride the tube. Now I wonder if that has more to do with policy, or the way we live with our dogs in different cities.
Day 232 - 100.9
April 19, 2012. Good grief, I felt like crap! I woke up with a fever. Eventually, I stopped shivering and felt hot, so I thought it must be breaking, but, no, same temperature. I checked again about an hour after eating, and it was still the same. Finally, around three in the morning I started sweating like crazy, and half an hour later I was down to 99º. However, I then watched the movie Michael Collins and probably became feverish with anger.
Day 231 - Face
April 18, 2012. Riding home at night, I stopped at a store window where I found this head on a stand and nabbed it with the fisheye. It kind of creeps me out, but I think it's my most interesting photo of the week.
Day 230 - Sparkle Saddle
April 17, 2012. I see parts of bikes hanging around locked to poles, racks, and fences nearly every day. This was the first time I ever saw a seat alone remaining. As mentioned in the flickr posting, I have seen a tire attached to a U-lock. If you'd like to see that, click to go to the flickr page and follow into the "Parts of Bikes" set on the right side of the page.
Day 229 - Up and Down
April 16, 2012. This is a shot of the L tracks where the red and brown lines come together at Willow Street.
Monday, April 16, 2012
Day 228 - Buddy Christ
April 15, 2012. The third and final day of C2E2 had a lot of great costumes, as did the first two days. For my photo of the day, I went with Buddy Christ since it was, after all, a Sunday.
Saturday, April 14, 2012
Day 227 - Black Cat
April 14, 2012. Saturday is, of course, the busiest day at C2E2. I saw lots of people I wanted to get photos of, but couldn't get to them or never crossed their paths a second time. After the convention floor had closed, we were at a panel in a different room, and when that was finished I spotted this gorgeous Black Cat on the floor below. I snapped a few shots of her and a Jay Garrick Flash before leaving for the night. Thank you so much, Black Cat.
Day 226 - C2E2 Captain America
April 13, 2012. The Chicago comic and Entertainment Expo, C2E2, began on Friday and was loaded with nerdy stuff to do and see. Here's Captain America at the entrance to the showroom. Surprisingly, I did not see anyone dressed as Jason Voorhees, even though it was Friday the 13th.
Day 225 - Birds
April 12, 2012. Fabulous Ladies of Fitness had their monthly installment of Let's Get Physical at Cole's Bar. DJ Bald É was a guest DJ, and the theme was Fleetwood Mac and yacht rock. However, you should forget all that explanation and make up your own story about what's going on here.
Day 224 - Pelvis
Thursday, April 12, 2012
Day 223 - Rainbo Club Photobooth
April 10, 2012. Tuesday night had me running around with friends and coworkers, first at the Rocking Horse in Logan Square, then briefly at the Owl, and finally at the Rainbo Club. Rainbo's photobooth served us well for several group photos. I took advantage of the fabulous lighting with my own camera as well.
Day 222 - Milwaukee Avenue Breakdown
April 9, 2012. Riding my bike home from work, I spied these two changing a tire on Milwaukee Avenue.
Day 221 - Easter Puppy
April 8, 2012. Easter Sunday - no work, no band practice. It was a sunny day, seen in this photo of Malicous in our backyard. Our friend Amy made chili and cornbread and avocado salad, which we enjoyed while watching Mad Men and Game of Thrones.
Saturday, April 7, 2012
Day 220 - iPad Photographer
April 7, 2012. For the first time in real life, I saw someone photographing with an iPad. These two girls were at North Avenue Beach shooting the skyline to the south. I noticed the one with the iPad also has a camera hanging from her wrist.
Day 219 - Matt Seifert
Day 218 - Carrie Brownstein
April 5, 2012. Wild Flag played a killer set at the Metro, including some good covers. Metro is a difficult place to watch a sold-out show. I guess I should make more effort to be there early when I don't have a photo pass.
Day 217 - Green Jacket
April 4, 2012. As we left work, I noticed Mallory enjoying an Arnold Palmer drink while wearing a green jacket. She used to work at a country club, maybe she's a golf whiz.
Day 216 - Parting
April 3, 2012. After work I went with my friend and bandmate Paloma to watch Rotten Finko and the Convicts practice. They've added a guitar player (and a mohawk).
Monday, April 2, 2012
Day 215 - Daphne
April 2, 2012. Having the day off of work, I got my bike fixed and rode it for several miles. At one point I was on Northerly Island, below 12th Street Beach. Daphne Garden is a sculpture there, by Dessa Kirk, of three figures of Daphne, of Greek mythology, being transformed into a tree. The framework from the lower portion of each sculpture down to the ground allows for climbing plants to grow up each figure, alluding to the transformation.

Day 214 - 737 Wing
April 1, 2012. Just like that, we were headed back to Chicago and a 25-degree drop in temperature.
Day 213 - Cake
March 30, 2012. The bride and groom cut the wedding cake at their shaadi. Later, he would pay a sizable ransom to her sisters and cousins for the return of his stolen shoes, and whisk his new bride away in a very fast sports car.
Day 212 - Offerings
Day 211 - Passenger
March 29, 2012. We flew to Houston for a wedding this weekend, and this little dog waited in line ahead of us to board the plane at Midway in Chicago. They also sat in front of us, and I didn't hear a peep out of the dog throughout the entire flight.
