September 29, 2013. The Gompers Park fieldhouse was designed by Chicago architect Clarence Hatzfeld. Work on the park began in 1927. In 1929 the park was named after Samuel Gompers, first president of the American Federation of Labor. I passed by this evening on a trip to the grocery store.
