336/365 - Curbee
July 2, 2014. This Curbee was installed on a corner in Chicago next to the bike lane. While I'm all for bicycle amenities, and I do use it when there is space for me at that red light, I'm not sure it's significantly beneficial. Then again, my feet aren't clipped to my pedals, and I can easily get my feet on the ground with my bike's height - something not as easily done with a lot of bikes. I do wonder if it has a tendency to keep cyclists stopped at the red light, rather than wobbling in a track stand until they see a hint of space between oncoming cars. That would be a benefit, but it would only apply to two bikes at a time, where I regularly find myself sitting with a pack of six or more.
